Sunday Grace

Pandemic

What if you thought of it
as the Jews consider the Sabbath —
the most sacred of times?
Cease from travel.
Cease from buying and selling.
Give up, just for now,
on trying to make the world
different than it is.
Sing. Pray. Touch only those
to whom you commit your life.
Center down.

And when your body has become still,
reach out with your heart.
Know that we are connected
in ways that are terrifying and beautiful.
(You could hardly deny it now.)
Know that our lives
are in one another’s hands.
(Surely, that has come clear.)
Do not reach out your hands.
Reach out your heart.
Reach out your words.
Reach out all the tendrils
of compassion that move, invisibly,
where we cannot touch.

Promise this world your love —
for better or for worse,
in sickness and in health,
so long as we all shall live.

Confucius say, “Wise shopper is one smart cookie!” Or so it goes when it comes to our Momo Semi-annual Good Fortune Sale, officially starting today. Inside a crunchy cookie, you’ll find savings on clothing, accessories and other neat stuff you quite possibly admired this season. The game of chance runs for two weeks; come in often as we randomly markdown more items throughout the sale. So, here’s how it works:
  • Decide that you must have this SALE item.
  • Bring said sale ITEM to the counter.
  • Pick a FORTUNE cookie out of a jar and open it.
  • Receive a special fortune with an ADDITIONAL 10% - 30% OFF.
  • Eat COOKIE (do not eat fortune).
  • Leave feeling STYLISH and clever for saving money.

Follow these guidelines and we assure you that you will be a WINNER! First ones in the shop get the best picks, so we’ll be seeing you at Momo soon. 😉

A Touch of Red for Valentines Day

❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Cerise, Scarlet, Vermillion, Ruby — whatever the shade, red suggests passion, power, courage and determination. It’s the color of blood and fire, primordial life energy. In the Chinese culture, it’s the luckiest of all hues, symbolizing wealth and good fortune. And on Valentine’s Day, it’s a universal expression of love.

At Momo, we love red ... in perfectly appropriate doses. Never ones to be overly dramatic, we know a little goes a long way. So here, for your Valentine’s giving, a mini tour of our engaging accents. Of course, there’s more in store, so drop by and give us a browse. And remember, we’re always happy to wrap.

Crimson Kimono: Head-to-toe accessories. A harp hair clip to hold the heaviest of hair, a silken brooch made by local lovely Thea Starr, and fabulous fun chirimen shoelaces for low or high tops.

Dots right! Everyone loves i Ronni Kappos vintage glass jewelry. Handmade in Los Angeles, these modern classics are a sure hit.

Red Letter Day: Check out our sweet selection, carefully picked by Mr. Momo, the fussy card guy.

Red Hot: Goodies for the hottie in your life. Dried Hawk’s Claw chiles from Japan (a thoughtful gift matched with a suribachi mortar and pestle) and Seattle’s own Mama Lil’s pickled peppers.

Lucky Belly: Do you love a foodie or a secret chef? Locally made tea towel with lacquered wood chopsticks from Japan make a tasty pair.

Love & Luck in the Year of the Rat

Look Out 2020:
Here Comes the Lucky Rat!

Kung Hei Fat Choi! Saturday, January 25th welcomes the Lunar New Year of the Metal Rat. Quick witted, energetic and agile, the rodent scampers in, ready for action. Among the most auspicious of Chinese horoscope signs, this optimistic survivor is well equipped for turning dreams into reality, observing its surroundings and strategizing accordingly. Under the rat’s watch, financial opportunity abounds, so take advantage and stash cash for the future. The element of metal adds an edge to ambitions — we cut ties with the past with little regrets.

Intelligent and sociable, the gregarious rat loves its pack, so expect to hang out with family and friends. Still, remember to look out for yourself and take a break from the rat race to rejuvenate body and soul. Happy Lunar New Year from all of us at Momo,

xo Rat on!

Aloha, Tuesday!

Poor Tuesday. It’s the middle child of weekdays. Everyone appreciates the fresh start of Monday, and Wednesday is Humpday — halfway there! We can see the weekend from Thursday; then it’s Hello Friday! (And don’t even mention the most popular pair, Saturday and Sunday.)

But there are more than a few reasons to love the most trivialized day of the week. Tuesday is:
1.     The safest day to drive.
2.     The most productive day of the week.
3.     The best day to land a job.
4.     The smartest day to schedule a meeting.
5.     The most popular day to exercise.
6.     The lowest day for airfares.
7.     The best night to get a good sleep.

We’ve also decided that Tuesday is the ideal day for Momo to take a long-awaited rest. Since everyone’s busy getting things done instead of going shopping, it makes sense that after nearly a decade of being open seven days a week, we will be closed every Tuesday.

But not to worry, we’ll still be here for you, Monday, Wednesday through Saturday, 11 – 6 and Sunday, 12 – 5. And on Tuesday, we’ll see you at the gym!

Happy New Year,

xo Momo
