Harumi K : Love

Harumi K designer Sherry!

Meet Momo newcomer Harumi K aka Sherry Koyama. Harumi K clothing was borne from Sherry’s desire to create garments that are versatile, comfortable and low-maintenance. Featuring modern lines and textural fabrics (which are made with American grown cotton!), Harumi K pieces are flattering and easy-to-wear — and don’t we love that? Bonus: they transition beautifully from work to play, as well as from season to season, a major plus in our somewhat-fair-weather city!

Sherry will be one of the trio of designers we’re hosting during next week’s trunk show. Also joining the fun are local jeweler Angela Muhlnickel of Little Teal, and Ursa Caratolo, curator of stylish Italian handbags. They’re happy to share a few tips for transitioning into fall. Here are the deets:

Father’s Day in the Sun

Momo Man has a few ideas to make Dad look sharp and feel summer-ized. Father’s Day heralds the advent of summer, and nothing says summer like a linen shirt. At Momo you can find 100% linen shirts from Raffi and & Sons, and linen/cotton blends from National Standards.

A pink linen shirt and a glass of rosé, perfection.

Raffi’s Aqua Cotton is the perfect light-weight
button-down shirt, and oh so soft.

Daddy-O will look sharp in our selection of mod and slim cut shirts from Bruun & Stengade, Copenhagen.

Pops will have happy cool feet with
these easy summer socks from Japan.
The Open Sole design assures the socks won’t slip off the heel.

Billy Jealousy has a variety of great grooming products that any man, especially Dad, will appreciate.

Wishing all the Dads out there a fabulous Father’s Day, with love from Momo.

Iced is Nice

Are you ready for this hot summer? Even hotter than the last three? April’s highs reached what Seattle normally averages ... in JULY.

One way to beat the heat is an ice cold beverage. Lots of them (stay hydrated, folks)! A classic cool drink is the beloved iced tea, and Flying Bird Botanicals is our go-to. Their focus is on crafting organic, fair trade, artisanal botanical blends. For a bit of a pick-me-up, try our caffeinated varieties: Village Green and Lavender Orange Grey. For a purely herbal experience, we have Wholesome Cleanse, Twilight Mint (divine with a squeeze of fresh lemon and a mashed strawberry), Dream Catcher and Bluebird Morning.

Caf and de-caf blends.

Add a flourish of mint, citrus and berries.

For a more exotic spin on iced tea, why not try iced chai? Rich, sweet and spicy, Jaipur Avenue’s chais are the best around. Momo’s flavors of the summer include Original Masala, Cardamom, Ginger and the ever-popular Variety Pack. Just add water and ice!

Direct from India!
It goes without saying that you’ll want your iced drinks to be as beautiful as they are refreshing. We currently have a veritable rainbow of Couleur Nature café glasses. Bright, cheery, the perfect accessory to a bracing beverage. Cheers!

From Japan, with Love

Say “kon'nichiwa!” to the latest addition to our ‘Found only at Momo’ family: Cream Company Kyoto. As we speak, Momo is the only place outside of Japan where you can buy these lovely leather goods. Hand made by generations of artisans in Kyoto, the family is dedicated to superior quality, substantial leathers and a signature color palette.

You may have seen the pouches at Momo before. Originally, Momo Mama discovered them at a design shop in Kyoto and purchased one personally. She loved it so much, she conspired with a friend in Japan to bring them to Seattle. But, as things go, that didn’t last, so she devised another plan of importing the cheery leather goods to the US.

Seven years later: the wallet that started it all.
After hours of sleuthing and sussing, rounds of emails with an interpreter, and the conveyance of planes, trains and automobiles, we present to you our third (and hopefully not last) capsule collection. All three pieces — snap pouch/wallet, crossbody bag and roomy tote — boast saturated hues in simple, elegant shapes.

Snap pouches are great for organizing the inside of your purse!
The perfect size: 4.5" x 6.5"

We only have three of these fabulous totes with a large zippered interior pocket
and two open pockets that are perfect for slipping a cell phone into.

We are loving this crossbody bag!
Just toss in your essentials and head out for the day.

Although it was a challenging adventure to get these beauties to Seattle, it was worth it! We think they’re very special and we’re pretty sure that you will, too.

Top it Off in Style

How to keep one’s head warm and dry in a rainy city that eschews umbrellas? Hats! Luckily for you, Momo has a new batch of wool New York Hat Company lids to keep your noggin toasty and rain-free. With four classic unisex styles, we are positive that you’ll find something you’ll love.

First up: super-soft wool berets. Timeless and stylish, one of our favorite hats for year-round wear. Pair one with our Saint James shirts for an ultra-French look. C’est si bon!

Available in red, black, charcoal, burgundy and navy.

Easy to wear and easy to pair, NYHC’s “Thug Cap” is available at Momo in black, sizes Medium – Extra Large.

One our most popular hats is the “Spitfire.” Sport a vintage look that is still relevant and cute! Available in black wool.

Another retro-cool look is the “Pub Cap.” We love how jaunty this hat is. Fully lined and fitted, Momo has this in charcoal, black and a Woolrich plaid.

This is a La Niña winter and we know what that means: rain, rain, and more rain. Pay us a visit soon and we can ensure that your head stays comfy and dry!

The Little Shop That Could

For nearly 10 years, Momo has occupied the sun-filled space on the corner of 6th and Jackson. We weathered the economic downturn, we've watched our International District evolve into something more than a mere food destination, we’ve continued to be a happy Hapa shop.

Momo Mama and Mr. Momo pride themselves on hunting down the perfect items for our “lifestyle” store. Goods ranging from locally handmade jewelry to Japanese antiques to clothing from around the globe to delicious mochi mix flown in from Hawaii ... if it’s amazing and happy-making, odds are that Momo has it.

It’s with excitement and gratitude that we are sharing this recent shout-out from Seattle Met. Momo is one of the Best Little Shops in Seattle!

Thank you, Seattle Met!

Marvelous Momo mention!

Thank you, Seattle Met. And thank you, Momo Friends!

With Love,
Momo Peeps

PS. Please joins us as we raise a ‘kampai’ to you!
Thursday, November 9 from 4-7 at Momo
Come if’n when you can! See you there.

Rice is Nice

Tasty treats are awaiting you at Momo! Straight from the tropical paradise of Hawaii come nibble-liscious delights in both the sweet and salty food kingdoms.

Our “Tomoe” rice cracker story will perfectly illustrate how hard Momo Mama Lei Ann works to find the shop truly special items: While visiting her parents in Hawaii, Lei Ann called Momo’s butter mochi mix guy. “Who has the best snacks in town, Butter Mochi Mix Guy?” she asked. He directed her to Taiyo, a snack food warehouse in Honolulu, where she met up with the very nice Lynn. As it turned out, Lynn is the great granddaughter of the founder of the company, which has been passed down through three generations. The “Tomoe” arare brand is named after her grandmother!

Momo Mama brought a suitcase filled with these delicious island-style bites back home to Seattle to share with all of you. We have mini yakko, hearts, sakura, norimaki and a blended mix!

Perfectly crunchy! Salty with a slight hint of sweet.
Momo has also replenished our butter mochi supply. A great dessert for gluten-intolerant folks (both the classic as well as the brownie mix), and is gluten free, addictively yummy and super easy to make.

Mmmochi! Classic Butter and a Brownie mix, too.
Drop by, say hi, pick up some rice-y goodies and get your snack on!

Iced Tea Time!

Holy heatwave, Batman! It looks like Seattle is in for a scorcher of a week. One of our favorite ways to beat the heat is to have an ice cold drink handy – iced tea, anyone? What tickles your fancy? Herbal, caffeinated, spice-infused chai? Happily, Momo has all of the above.

Direct from Bellingham, WA: Flying Bird Botanicals. Handcrafted from herbs and teas sourced from organic farms, you can pick and choose between purely herbal, or something with a gentle kick. We highly recommend the “Twilight Mint” for an invigoratingly chill brew.

Jaipur Avenue chai: We have Ginger for those who like a bit of bite, Variety Pack for the less decisive among us. Although typically encountered served warm, it’s also amazingly refreshing when cold.

No iced drink is complete without the perfect glass! “Perfect” in Momo parlance equals happy and colorful, perhaps with a touch of whimsy, and always functional.

Couleur Nature is well known for French kitchen linens, but they also make sturdy glasses in a wide array of bright colors. Our current favorites are the perfectly sized pop juice glasses with cheery rims, and the hand-blown 12 oz. seaspray tumbler.

The perfect juice glass! We have them with turquoise,
red, yellow, white and cobalt blue rims.
Fill with 12 oz. of chilled deliciousness.

For those craving a bit of cuteness, check out our Bandjo glasses! Made from Duralex (French for Pyrex!) these are not only adorned with adorableness, but are sturdy as heck and dishwasher safe.

Other fun patterns at Momo are: orange forest gnomes and turquoise kitties.
And if all else fails, we have air conditioning at Momo! Come visit and keep cool.
