Three Cs for A Rainy Tuesday

What do Candles, Cashmere and Collectables have in common?
Aside from starting with the letter “C,” all three feature fresh arrivals
at Momo.

For Sweet Petula soap lovers: locally-crafted Sweet Petula candles.
Now your favorite fragrances can delicately scent your home. We have Bourbon & Vanilla, Vintage Peony, Wildflowers & Honey and La Nuit. Yum!

Giftable, fragrant candles by Sweet Petula.
Delightfully creative Jen Gay has brought in a fresh batch of her Kitten Mittens — ever so soft, her fingerless gloves are made from recycled fine wool/cashmere sweaters, with vintage trim and buttons. A portion of the proceeds are donated to P.A.W.S. Warm and fuzzy mittens help warm and fuzzy animals in need.

Keep your hands toasty warm in the cold drizzle.

Mr. Momo and Momo Mama recently perused the treasures at Kyoto Art and Antiques and found some truly stunning pieces. Here are just
a few of the beautiful antiques they discovered:

Regal bronze Kirin dragon. It symbolizes prosperity and serenity.

Elegant white marble Buddha head from China.

Fall Fashion for Les Hommes At Momo

Momo was lucky enough to be one of the boutiques invited to participate in the Downtown Seattle Rocks the Runway show last Wednesday at Pacific Place. We love being able to see what our fellow shopkeepers are offering and what designs we can expect to see gracing Seattle’s lovely streets. For our part, Momo showcased a number of our latest fall fashions, including:

This handsome model is sporting our iconic Saint James “Meridien II” in Navy/Caramel and the “Portobello” waxed cotton jacket by Rodd & Gunn. He’s topped of with a wool pub cap made by New York Hat Co. and an AU waxed canvas tote.

This sharp gent wore jeans by local designer Tarboo, as well as Tarboo’s “Explorer’ shirt with a Pendleton zip-front jacket. Accentuating this ensemble is a New York Hat Co. canvas hat and Vivi scarf. That’s just a small sample of the new fall season men’s clothing that’s been pouring in. Here are a few more things you can find at Momo:

Lightweight yet wind-resistant jacket by Bench is great for blustery days.
This lightweight olive green jacket (from UK company Bench) has been paired with a button-up shirt from New York designer Matteo Gottardi’s W.R.K.
These colors are perfect for a Seattle autumn day.
7 Diamonds “Premium” shirt sports a versatile small checkered pattern in slate and earth tones.

Layering season is upon us, and Momo has clothing to keep you feeling good and looking even better.  Stop by, say “hi” and get yourself geared up for fall.

Modern Adornments

At Momo, we believe that versatility equals modernity in clothing and accessories, and that includes jewelry, too. A handful of adaptable, interesting pieces can go a long way in spiffing up a wardrobe and creating a happy • lucky • life.

Fail Jewelry is one of Momo’s latest winning discoveries. Austin, Texas designer Christine Fail creates jewelry that is delicate, feminine and modern. Her adornments are the kind that you love to wear — they will pair well with anything and everything in your wardrobe and are easily layered for a more dynamic look.

Idaho jeweler Sarah Park’s designs embody the spirit of fluidity. Convertible necklaces become dramatic wrap bracelets at a moment's notice.
Functionality is also a Momo priority. A necklace that doubles as a useable knife? Pretty functional! Here is a sample of our current collection from Momo Girl Angela of Flora and Fawn. The tiny treasures range from post-war celluloid knives from Japan to modern mother-of-pearl, stag antler and more, all measuring less than 1-1/4" long. Sweet and dangerously stylish.

Celebrate Tradition: Bon Odori this Weekend

Our vintage shibori obiage tie can also be used as a scarf.

Come to Momo and get ready for another colorful cultural event in the International District.

July 20th -21st, the Seattle Betsuin Buddhist Temple is hosting the Obon Festival and Bon Odori dance. Obon is a Japanese Buddhist family reunion holiday celebrated to honor ones’ ancestors. At this celebration you’ll find traditional Japanese food for sale, a beer garden with live jazz, taiko drummers and of course, Bon Odori dancing.
For more information, visit their website.

Thea Starr hair accessories to ornament your locks.
Momo was graced by a visit from designer Thea Starr this morning. She was kind enough to drop off a terrific selection of kimono hair accessories, including some extra-fancy hair prongs, called ‘kanzashi,’ for the upcoming festivities.

Momo men, pull on a “Powered by Gohan” tees designed by Hawaiian-born Brandt Fuse and dance the carbos off with humorous Asian flair with these quirky (and comfy) shirts.

Fun, funny Sumofish tees.
Join us in the International District for another lively cultural activity! We'll see you there.

Aloha, Iolani

Momo Mama and Mr. Momo are back! Back from the tropical paradise known as Hawaii, that is. Nor did they return empty-handed. Fresh from Oahu, Momo has a new batch of Iolani clothing.

Momo Men are undoubtedly familiar with our Iolani button-ups. They epitomize easy-to-wear, retro-cool shirts that are an essential for any summer wardrobe.

A NYHC straw hat adds a jaunty touch to this chocolate brown Iolani shirt
We’re also excited to inform you that Momo has a new Iolani design scheduled to arrive soon (we're shooting for before Father's Day): the “Imua” shirt in navy blue. Stay tuned!

For Momo Girls, we have striking Iolani dresses in graphic black and white prints. Wear them loose for a casual day out, or belted for a Tory Burch look (at a fraction of the cost). These super comfortable dresses look great with a pair of strappy sandals.

Free Size

“Free size” is what “one-size-fits-most” is called in Japan. Here at Momo, we say “It fits who it fits, how it fits ... generally great!” We do our best to provide an array of clothing that is both flattering and accommodating to a variety of body types.

Without further ado, versatile “free size” pieces.
Metalicus textured tank-dress.
AMB ballet-style top with a Metalicus skirt.
Metalicus, an Australian brand, creates clothing with a surprising amount of stretch. This black and white AMB top (paired with a Metalicus skirt) is incredibly comfortable for petite and curvy women alike. Another bonus of one-size stretch is that it makes a congenial travel companion with its easy care and wrinkle-free attitude.
Linen poncho from Kokoro.

Fresh from Japan, Kokoro’s linen poncho. Luxurious texture and an elegant drape. Throw it on over jeans or a long simple dress and you’re ready to go. Available in Navy and Natural.
And of course the bottom-most layer — Coobie bras. Coobies have a devoted following due to their comfort, fun colors and extreme affordability. Here in MomoLand I have witnessed first-hand how a Coobie will fit everyone from the slender to the buxom.

A rainbow of Coobies!

Fresh From London and NYC

Momo is excited to inform our Dear Readers that we are now carrying work by London-based jeweler Rachel Essex. Whimsical, colorful and utterly charming, her pieces are the perfect pop of color to brighten the Seattle “neutral” wardrobe.

Rachel frequents antique fairs, flea markets and thrift shops in London and Paris in search of vintage lucite and bakelite buttons and components. As a result, many of her pieces have one-of-a-kind buttons or beads.

Rachel Essex Jewelry can be found at Anthropologie in London and at Cath Kidson ... and now Momo! She was sweet enough to customize a Momo-exclusive collection — the only of Rachel’s jewelry to be found in the US.

The sweetest cherries..

can you spy the little bunny?

Don’t fret, Momo men! We've got you covered — with our latest order of NY Hat Co. hats. The “Pub Cap” in black or brown plaid, classic canvas “Rexy,” grey plaid linen “Gatsby” or the straw “Diamond Crown.”

the already-dapper Maurice looks particularly handsome in the “Rexy”

Baby, It’s (Almost) Cold Outside

Momo has begun to receive winter jackets and scarves just in time for the rain, wind and chilly evenings.

Spiewak jackets are among some of our new arrivals. Spiewak is a Brooklyn-based, family owned company that has been producing uniforms (for firemen, police and EMTs) since 1904. In more recent times they’ve branched out to include edgy, stylish and durable streetwear/outerwear for both men and women.

The “Warren”: quilted down but tailored through the waist (nice for those of us who don’t want to resemble the StayPuff Marshmallow Man!), it also has some fabulous details like snapback extended cuffs and a cozy hood. Available in a rich, subtle olive.
Spiewak’s “Warren” quilted down jacket.

The “Beeson” is perfect for the months of drizzle that constitute the Seattle winter. It is waterproof, has a hidden inside drawstring waist and a detachable hood. Fun fillips include a gun flap at the shoulder and a droptail hem, all in a rich navy hue.

Spiewak “Beeson” has a removable hood and structured collar.

Thick, cozy, simple: perfect unisex scarf.
Scarves! Scarves are a wonderful multipurpose accessory, keeping your neck toasty warm AND giving you an opportunity to add a splash of color or texture. And we have a wide variety of weights, colors and materials (cashmere, cashmere/wool, cashmere/wool/silk blends). Come and get cozy at Momo!
Lovely and whimsical wool/cashmere/silk blend.
